Went
to two
parties this weekend; took a load of photos and made
a website. First was Nicola's party in North Lambeth;
Second was Yolanda's party in E1 - right by Liverpool
Street. Both full of interesting people - all captured
by Mallo's wandering third eye (that's a camera, in case
you were wondering). |

Spent
some time photographing
a new range of toys for Kidz
Biz recently. Battle
Spin Warriors. You wind them up,
fire them off and they fight each other until spent. Which
is usually for a good three to four minutes. They've even
got add-on blades which shred your fingers if you try
to stop them... Ouch. |
|
|
 |
Oops
- spoke too soon... GK
goes for a bang thanks to hosts
Freeserve, which leaves a void in the lives of many everyday
people. LA radio hosts Kevin
& Bean were two such people
and asked me to talk live with them at the prime time
9am slot. 2 million listeners thinking about porn over
their cornflakes... Here's the interview
in full. |

New
redesigned PC Zone
is out. Fantastic new look; tight editorial. Buggers forgot
to list me in the contributors panel, but the issue does
in fact carry an article I wrote about a ten-year-old
computer game - called: Games That Changed The World:
Ultima Underworld.
Turned out well. There's a full
PDF of the article here

WITH
TRAFFIC currently going through the roof I've spent a
little bit of time updating my most popular website
to maintain visitor interest. GK regularly attracts 10,000
visitors a day, and generates a huge amount of positive
feedback - from both boys and girls.
I'm very proud of the interest this website has created.

JUST
SPENT some time updating the Opal
Studios website
- to bring it into the present. Totally re-vamped the
Oberon page,
with details of last year's triumphs and high points.
Plus, tweaked mail order page, links, Mesh Records section,
and fixed some out-of-date links (there's little more
frustrating than finding dead links). |
|
|
 |
AFTER
A two-year haitus from magazine writing (my full-time
occupation before going freelance), I've decided to try
my hand at it again. Leading games mag PC
Zone - issue
113 to be precise - will feature
my returning piece (a short preview), and the following
issue will contain a four-page article called Games That
Changed The World. |
|
|
 |
I
GOT an email from a lady writing for BBC
Derby recently, asking if they
could use some of my clubbing photos on their website.
One piece - a preview
of a new club called Progress - features my handiwork,
and I'm told there's more to follow. Which is good news
- the BBC website being one of the best, and most visited,
in the world. |
|
|
 |
I
WENT to a Half Man Half Biscuit gig at the Astoria last
year and took a bunch of photographs for Andy Martin,
a friend who works for the band. Some have been published
on the official HMHB website,
including a rare shot of Nigel (lead singer) being kissed
by a sexy stage invader. These were published a while
ago, and no-one told me. |
|
|
 |
BEEN
DOING a fair bit of web stuff for Kidz
Biz
- a toy company with a pretty interesting and varied portfolio
of products. I've launched a new It's
A Girl Thing
section on the corporate
site, plus a snazzy
microsite to coincide with a TV ad. On top of that
I've redesigned their home
page, their news
page, and their BattleBots
page. |
|
|
 |
LOS
ANGELES' number one breakfast show on KROQ
FM - hosted by Kevin
& Bean
- invited me on to talk about GK. They love it - going
so far as to say it is "the greatest website in the
world" and that I am "doing God's work"!
They also said: "when we found it, it was like Christmas."
Anyway, click to hear the interview in full (you'll need
RealPlayer). |

IN
LIGHT of Opal's recent live debut, and the release of
Dark Planet's new single, I've redesigned the Opal Studios
website. There's now a photos/dates
page for Opal, and a stand-alone
teaser for the DP vinyl release. I've also added the
Dark Planet single to the mail
order page, so that people
can buy it, and listen to clips of it, online. |

FOLLOWED
ON from Escape From Samsara on Friday with a great night
at Earth Dance on Saturday. This massive charity event
at the Brixton Academy
attracted well over 2000 people. Oberon
and Beamish
played back-to-back in the main room for two hours, and
even managed to drop a Dark
Planet
tune into the mix. That was a buzz. |
|
|
 |
BIG
NIGHT at Escape From Samsara last Friday, what with my
friend David's 30th birthday gathering, and techno-trance
duo Opal debuting
live on stage.
Turned out to be an enjoyable and memorable night. Hardest
thing was picking 20 shots out of the entire shoot, afterwards.
Check out the
usual place for the full low-down. |
|
|
 |
JUST
PUBLISHED six new outfits on the Flaunt-Wear online
catalogue. Did the shoot with
blond bombshell Tanya beginning of September, which went
extremely well. Spent some time cutting out the shots
and running them through various Photoshop
processes before uploading.
These things take time, you see. |
|
|
 |
WENT
DOWN to Escape From
Samsara
again this Friday. As usual I took a bunch of photos and
stuck them up on my
website.
As usual the people there were brilliant. Thanks to everyone
- especially Les and Tim - for making me feel so welcome.
And as usual I'll be back down there soon to take more
photos. Watch this space... |

IN
CELEBRATION of its recent passing of the 1,000,000
hit
mark I've totally redesigned my most popular website.
GK still manages to pull the punters - 4000 a day on a
bad day, 15,000 on a good. The redesign includes new galleries
and a complete new look. Is it still art, or is it still
porn? You still decide. |
|
|
 |
GREAT
NIGHT down at Escape From Samsara on the 14th. Not
least because it was their sixth
birthday party.
Banging tunes, lots of mad balloon tricks and plenty of
mashed-up people. I managed to get most of the best bits
on film, which can be seen over at the recently re-vamped
www.escapefromsamsara.com. |
|
|
 |
TWITCH
RECORDS have pressed-up a dark, hard trance tune written
by myself, Oberon and Paul Harding, under the name Dark
Planet. Both sides, "Strength"
and "Courage"
got played by two different DJs at the Escape From Samsara's
6th birthday party. Dave Randall played it at Fish's 6th
birthday party on Sat too! |
|
|
 |
TIME
OUT published an article about the forthcoming Escape
From Samsara 6th birthday party in their September
12-19 2001 issue, and used one of my photos to
illustrate the piece. Not only that, but they printed
the website address too. Joy, joy. Now have to try to
get them to do a piece about my photos. |
|
|
 |
NOT
A bad effort to say it was rustled-up in about three hours
- including the close-up pen photography (which was done
at 2am in my bedroom). Designing a quarter-page advert
for a stationery
trade
magazine has never been so satisfying, and this probably
has to rate as my very best piece of stationery trade
graphic design work to date. |
|
|
 |
WHATEVER
YOU want. Whatever you need... Status
Quo.
Argos. Teaming up together in a highly effective televisual
manner in the form of an advertising campaign. And guess
what? They only went and used one of my photos at the
very end of the ad! Picture of some Dragonball Z figures.
Seen it broadcast loads. Wicked. |
|
|
 |
MESH
RECORDS asked me to put a simple record
buying system
on the Opal
Studios
website, which I duly did - complete with some quality
RealAudio clips. Now trance fans can buy hard-to-find
Mesh
tunes - direct from the label. Design-wise: nice and neat,
as ever. Opal Studios site looking good. |
|
|
 |
I'VE
JUST stuck a new
set
of Escape From Samsara photos up at www.samsara.freeserve.co.uk.
This lot feature Bionk
Brain
playing live on stage, plus some seriously colourful UV
balloon sculptures. Was an amazing night.
Anyway, check 'em out - there are 20
new pictures
in the set. |
|
|
 |
TODAY
I have been mostly taking close-up
photos of toys.
Why is that? Am I obsessed with plastic figures, or do
I get kicks from wasting my own time? Neither. I am being
paid to do so by Kidz Biz.
My recent toy photos are due to feature in the Index
catalogue and in Toys R
Us. |
|
|
 |
I
DIDN'T design the actual logo itself (that was Head
First in Manchester), but spent some time incorporating
the new Kidz Biz
ident
into their corporate
website.
I also added a new
BattleBots section
and trimmed out some old stuff that no one cares about
any more. |
|
|
 |
WENT
TO Amsterdam with The
Good Drugs Guide
to take some photographs to bolster their quality image
gallery. I got some beautiful
shots
of a bunch of Philosopher's Stones, plus some nice photos
of a pile of Hawaiian Mushrooms.
They want me to do some more photos soon. Watch this space. |
|
|
 |
HAD
A great time taking photos at Logic - a Saturday
night trance extravaganza
based at The Fridge
in Brixton.
Got some good shots of hardcore techno terrorists
Lab
4 booming
it out while bathed in light beams. Hopefully should see
these photos dominating the Logic
website
at some point soon. |
|
|
 |
AFTER
AN intense period of Photoshop excess I can now reveal
www.dbztoys.co.uk
to the world. Built for Kidz
Biz
as a promotional device for a new range of toys, this
website combines my design, my writing and my photography.
I would imagine it is the best example of my all-round
ability as a one-man web designer. |
